Turkish Clinics in the UK and Treatment in Istanbul: The 2026 Picture

In 2024, a record 523,000 UK residents sought medical treatment abroad — a 50 per cent increase in two years, according to Office for National Statistics data. Of those, more than 200,000 travelled to Turkey, making it by far the most popular destination. The drivers are structural: an NHS waiting list that stands at 7.4 million, dental services that are functionally inaccessible for many patients, and private healthcare costs in the UK that remain among the highest in Europe.
For Turkish-British communities, this picture has a specific dimension. On one side: Turkish-run clinics in London offering consultations, follow-up care and everyday health services without language barriers. On the other: Istanbul’s network of JCI-accredited hospitals delivering major surgery, advanced diagnostics and specialist treatment at typically half the cost of comparable UK private care. Increasingly, the two sides are being used together — consultation in London, treatment in Istanbul, follow-up back in the UK.
This guide updates our December 2024 directory of Turkish clinics in the UK, adds a dedicated Istanbul section for the first time, and provides the context patients need to make informed decisions in 2025.

Treatment in Istanbul: A Guide for UK-Based Turkish-British Patients
Since our December 2024 directory, the medical relationship between the UK and Turkey has accelerated. Around 100 Turkish clinics attended the London International Health Tourism Expo in February 2025, held near Westminster Abbey. Acibadem Healthcare Group’s London Health Point office on Great Portland Street continues to grow its UK patient base. And the headline number — 200,000 Britons treated in Turkey in 2024 — has made Turkey’s medical infrastructure impossible to ignore.
For Turkish-British patients, Istanbul represents something distinct from generic medical tourism. Language, cultural familiarity, family networks and the option to combine treatment with visits mean the decision carries fewer of the risks that affect patients who arrive with no prior connection to the country. Istanbul’s leading hospitals hold JCI accreditation — the international gold standard — and several have partnership arrangements with institutions in the US and Europe that benchmark their clinical protocols externally.

Before You Decide: What the 2025 Context Requires
Turkey has operated a compulsory certification system for internationally treating facilities since 2017. Hospitals holding JCI accreditation — Turkey has more than any other country — provide the strongest independent quality assurance available. Accreditation is necessary but not sufficient: confirming the specific surgeon’s experience, the clinic’s complication rates for your procedure, and the post-operative follow-up arrangements in the UK is equally important.
UK-based Turkish clinics serve a practical function in this context. A consultation with a Turkish-speaking clinician in London before travelling, and a follow-up appointment on return, significantly improves the manageability of complex procedures planned abroad. The Health Secretary’s 2025 warning about patients returning to the UK with complications from overseas procedures is a reminder that the risks are real — particularly for elective cosmetic procedures at lower-cost, less-regulated facilities. The solution is not to avoid Turkish healthcare, which is delivering serious, accredited medicine to hundreds of thousands of UK patients annually. It is to engage with the right tier of that system.
