Coinciding with the fall of the Berlin Wall, the festival marks its 35th anniversary this year, encouraging participants to reflect on storytelling over the past three decades in a world where physical and cultural barriers continue to rise. It calls upon us to look beyond borders and engage with the theme of “Bridges Between Us.”
Since 1989, the festival has fostered connections between different cultures, artists, and audiences through the power of storytelling. This year, the festival will feature artists from various countries, including a notable presence from Palestine. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in Storytelling Workshops, working with skilled and seasoned storytellers. These workshops, designed by professional narrators, cater to all levels and focus on skill development.
The Scottish International Storytelling Festival’s Community and Family Programme offers rich opportunities for professional growth and networking, ensuring the continuation of the “Great Scottish Storytelling Wave.” Two captivating exhibitions will also be open to visitors during the festival. “Take Me to New Lands & Then Bring Me Home Again” will be showcased at the Scottish Storytelling Centre until November 3rd, while “Renaissance: Scotland and Europe, 1480–1630” will be on display at the National Library of Scotland until April 2025.
With workshops, performances, and talks throughout the programme, the Scottish International Storytelling Festival remains a celebration of cultural exchange, running until October 31st.
