Artisanal Sustainability: Minova Design’s COCOON Collection Gives Glass a Second Life
The 2026 collection by Miné Ovacik bridges the gap between ancient textile techniques and contemporary eco-friendly design through its innovative COCOON felt covers.
By TB Magazine Arts & Culture Desk
In an era where sustainability is no longer a luxury but a necessity, Minova Design stands out with a collection that is as functional as it is ethically conscious. Designed and crafted by Miné Ovacik, the 2026 COCOON collection brings one of the world’s oldest non-woven textile techniques—felting—into the modern home.
The Science of Felting
The COCOON covers are not merely decorative; they are engineered from 100% recyclable, biodegradable, and organic wool. Utilizing the traditional wet felting technique, Ovacik transforms raw wool into protective sleeves designed to shield glass jars and bottles from impact.
Beyond physical protection, the natural properties of felt provide a unique thermal advantage. As a temperature-sensitive material, these covers regulate the internal temperature of food or beverages, offering natural insulation against both heat and cold.
A Second Life for the Ordinary
At the heart of the COCOON collection is a commitment to the up-cycling movement. Ovacik uses her artisanal expertise to repurpose used glass containers, giving forgotten objects a “second life” and a sophisticated new purpose in the modern interior. This approach supports the economic cycle of rural communities and farmers, ensuring that felt-making remains a pillar of socially and environmentally responsible design.
Co-Creation and Bespoke Art
Minova Design moves beyond mass production by inviting enthusiasts into a unique co-creation process. Leveraging her expertise in participatory design, Miné Ovacik hosts collaborative individual sessions to explore the specific needs and interests of her clients. Each final piece is then specifically tailored to the user, ensuring that every COCOON cover tells a personal story under the MINOVA brand.
For those who value craft that respects the planet, the COCOON collection is a testament to how tradition can be reshaped for a sustainable future.
