Levent Börek Opens Its Third London Branch in Islington
It began with a family recipe in Turkey in 1968. Nearly six decades later, Levent Börek is opening its third branch in London — this time in Islington, at 177 Upper Street — confirming what a growing number of Londoners already sense: the city’s appetite for proper Turkish pastry is not a passing trend.
The launch takes place on Thursday, 25 June 2026, from 16:00 to 19:00, with an opening event bringing together friends, business partners and guests of the brand. Within twelve months of arriving in London, Levent Börek UK will have three addresses in the capital.
A Legacy Built on Layers
Levent Börek traces its origins to 1968, when the brand’s founder — known as Levent Usta — began refining the filled börek recipes that would eventually make the name famous beyond Turkey. What started as a family business, drawing on knowledge passed down from his father, has grown into an operation producing 4.6 million kilograms of börek annually, with a production workforce of 190. The brand is now a registered trademark protected across the Americas, Europe and Asia.
The London chapter opened just a year ago. The Chiswick branch on Chiswick High Road came first, followed by a second location at 56 Goodge Street in Fitzrovia. Islington is the third within twelve months — a pace that reflects both the strength of the product and the hunger of a city that has long had a relationship with Turkish food but rarely encountered it at this quality and scale.
What Is Börek?
For the uninitiated: börek is a pastry made from thin, layered dough — not unlike filo — filled with cheese, meat, spinach or potatoes, then baked or fried. In Turkey it is ubiquitous: a breakfast staple, a lunchtime standard, a street-food institution. At Levent Börek, it arrives in neat squares, generously filled and baked to order.
The cheese filling is the most celebrated — the kind that stretches and pulls in a way that immediately explains why this product has travelled as far as it has. But the menu extends well beyond börek: an all-day offering that brings together classic Turkish breakfast dishes, gözleme, wraps and sandwiches alongside fresh salads and counter sweets including baklava and pastries from the Seven Seeded bakery.
Why Upper Street?
Islington’s Upper Street is one of North London’s most eclectic dining stretches — a long run of independent restaurants and established venues where food-curious regulars reward quality and consistency above all else. For a brand building a London-wide identity with a clear point of difference, it is precisely the right environment.
The response from Londoners over the past year has, by the brand’s own account, exceeded expectations. Three branches in twelve months suggests they are not being modest about that.
