The winners at the 2024 Golden Globes have been announced in a glittering ceremony attended by the prominent stars of film and television industry, at the prestigious Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. The 81st Golden Globe Awards were held on Sunday, 7th January, with audience favourites from the year such as Oppenheimer and Succession ruling the night.

The awards included categories for both film and television. Hosted by the witty comedian Jo Koy, the evening was filled with triumphs, surprises, and a few moments that left the audience both amused and astonished.

Film Highlights

The night’s spotlight shone brightly on the film Oppenheimer, which dominated the drama category, securing the title of Best Motion Picture – Drama. Cillian Murphy’s powerful performance in Oppenheimer earned him the award for Best Male Actor – Motion Picture, Drama, while Lily Gladstone took home the equivalent honor in the female category for her role in Killers of the Flower Moon.

In the realm of musicals and comedies, Poor Things emerged victorious as the Best Motion Picture – Musical/Comedy, with Emma Stone and Paul Giamatti winning Best Female Actor and Best Male Actor in their respective categories.

Notable wins also included Da’Vine Joy Randolph for Best Supporting Female Actor in The Holdovers and Robert Downey Jr., who received the accolade for Best Supporting Male Actor in Oppenheimer. Christopher Nolan’s directorial prowess in Oppenheimer was recognized with the Best Director – Motion Picture award.

The animated category saw The Boy and the Heron taking home the trophy for Best Animated Picture, while the French film Anatomy of a Fall clinched victory in the Best Picture – Non-English Language category.

Outstanding performances were recognized across various categories, with Sarah Snook and Kieran Culkin of “Succession” winning Best Female Actor and Best Male Actor in the drama series, respectively. Ayo Edebiri and Jeremy Allen White took home the equivalent honors for their roles in “The Bear.”

Ali Wong’s remarkable performance in “Beef” earned her the Best Female Actor – Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Television Motion Picture award, while Steven Yeun clinched the male counterpart in the same category.

The supporting roles on television were not overlooked, with Elizabeth Debicki winning Best Supporting Female Actor for “The Crown” and Matthew Macfadyen receiving the accolade for Best Supporting Male Actor in “Succession.”

In the stand-up comedy category, Ricky Gervais had the last laugh, winning Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy for “Ricky Gervais: Armageddon.”
