Ottoman Sharbat: Where Heritage Meets Contemporary Design in Chelsea

This evening, the prestigious Kings Road becomes the stage for “Ottoman Sharbat,” an exclusive exhibition at Bretz Interiors & Furniture that celebrates the vibrant dialogue between Turkish art, bespoke design, and live performance.

In the sophisticated enclave of Chelsea, art and luxury are rarely strangers. However, this evening’s opening of the “Ottoman Sharbat” exhibition at the Bretz London Showroom offers something more profound than a simple display. It is a celebration of the Turkish diaspora’s creative pulse, curated within a space where a half-century legacy of craftsmanship meets the avant-garde.

Artisanal Innovation: The COCOON Collection by Minova

Among the standout designs featured this evening is the COCOON felt cover collection by Minova Design, crafted by the designer Miné Ovacik. This collection serves as a perfect metaphor for the exhibition’s theme—blending ancient techniques with modern utility:

  • Sustainable Craftsmanship: The COCOON covers are made from 100% recyclable, biodegradable organic wool, utilizing the ancient wet felting technique.

  • A Second Life for Glass: Ovacik uses these artisanal felt covers to up-cycle used glass containers, giving them a “second life” and a sophisticated new purpose.

  • Functional Art: Beyond their aesthetic appeal, the covers act as natural insulators, regulating the temperature of food or drinks while protecting glass from impact.

  • Co-Creation: Under the brand MINOVA, Miné Ovacik also invites patrons into a co-creation process, designing bespoke pieces that reflect the individual needs and interests of the user.

This commitment to socially and environmentally responsible design values aligns seamlessly with Bretz’s own ethos of elevating daily life through extraordinary design.

A Multidisciplinary Showcase

The exhibition continues to offer a rich spectrum of artistic expression:

  • Fine Arts: Visionary works by Dilek Uzunoğlu Örs, Elif Danışman Özal, Gülcihan Vural, İclal Erentürk Güçsav, and Selin Soylu.

  • Heritage Design: Alongside Minova, the evening features the exquisite Ottoman Touch Design by Gonca Ülker, bringing a modern twist to traditional motifs.

  • Live Performance: The visual journey is heightened by the musical artistry of Oya Oğuz and Onur Özçelik.

TB Magazine: Supporting the Diaspora’s Creative Voice

At Turkish British Magazine, we have long championed the artistic endeavours of our community across the United Kingdom. We believe that tradition lives on only when we create together. Events like “Ottoman Sharbat” are vital; they strengthen the visibility of Turkish talent within London’s premier cultural districts and foster a sense of continuity for the diaspora.

A Legacy of Luxury: The Bretz Story

Founded in Istanbul in 1971 by Ozcan Ata, Bretz has evolved from a family woodworking shop into a global leader in bespoke furniture and interior design. Despite its 10,000 m² production facility and international reach, Bretz remains a family-run business at heart—one driven by the belief that design should elevate the ordinary into the extraordinary. Their Kings Road showroom is not merely a retail space; it is a gallery of lifestyle.
