Winner of Altın Koza Film Festival ‘One of the Days Hemme Died’
The awards of the 31st International Adana Altın Koza (Golden Boll) Film Festival have found their recipients. The Best Film award was won by “Hemme’nin Öldüğü Günlerden Biri” – One of the Days Hemme Died, directed by Murat Fıratoğlu. At the Altın Koza Awards, with Nuri Bilge Ceylan as the head of the jury, the Yılmaz Güney Award was given to the film “Gecenin Kıyısı” – Edge of the Night, directed by Türker Süer.

In the National Feature Film Competition, in which 11 films competed, the “Best Film” award was given to Hemme’nin Öldüğü Günlerden Biri – One of the Days Hemme Died, directed by Murat Fıratoğlu. Director Fıratoğlu received the award from the Metropolitan Mayor Zeydan Karalar and Jury President Nuri Bilge Ceylan together.

Director and screenwriter Nuri Bilge Ceylan, while presenting the award, pointed out that this film had not been given another award by their jury in the festival, saying, “This is a film that has not received any award so far. Because I also think that a film that wins the best film award already contains all the parameters from the start. If the acting wasn’t good, or the editing, the visuals, or the other things weren’t good, it wouldn’t win the best film award anyway. It’s not something strange. Sometimes it’s criticized, that’s why I’m saying this.” The film also received the Cüneyt Cebenoyan Best Film Award from the Cinema Writers Association (SİYAD) jury.
Best Film, Best Actor and Actress Awards
The Best Director Award went to Burak Çevik for the film Hiçbir Şey Yerinde Değil – Nothing Is in Place. On the night, the “Best Actor” and “Best Actress” awards were shared. Erdem Şenocak from the film Ölü Mevsim – Dead Season” and Ahmet Rıfat Şungar from the film Gecenin Kıyısı – Edge of the Night won the “Best Actor” award, while the “Best Actress” award was shared between Funda Eryiğit and Ece Yaşar for their roles in the film “Dead Season.”
Mehmet Aslantuğ gave the honorary awards to Demet Akbağ and Uğur Polat.
Yılmaz Güney Award
The “Yılmaz Güney” award at the festival was given to the film “Edge of the Night,” directed by Türker Süer. Metropolitan Mayor Zeydan Karalar, in his opening speech, expressed their desire to establish a Yılmaz Güney Museum in the city. Jury President Ceylan, who presented the award, said that he had also given this award in the festival before and mentioned that there should be a Yılmaz Güney Museum in Adana and that he was even surprised that there wasn’t one.

Ceylan said, “Yılmaz Güney, of course, is someone I admire very much. I have said this many times in various places. I have been greatly influenced by him and his cinema, and I learned a lot from his cinema… He is a unique figure who has inspired not only me but also many people in Turkish cinema and significant directors in world cinema. Not just his cinema; his personality, his character, his faults, his merits, maybe his mistakes, his rights — he was a legendary person. I may have learned a lot about human nature from his personality and even from his peculiarities. I have read almost everything written about him.”
