Almodóvar wins Venice’s Golden Lion with ‘The Room Next Door’
Venice Film Festival 2024: Pedro Almodóvar’s The Room Next Door wins Golden Lion, and Nicole Kidman, Brady Corbet among major winners
The prestigious 2024 Venice Film Festival concluded with Pedro Almodóvar’s The Room Next Door winning the coveted Golden Lion for Best Film. The film, marking Almodóvar’s English-language debut, stars Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore in a poignant euthanasia drama. The story follows two estranged friends, Ingrid (Moore) and Martha (Swinton), who reunite under bittersweet and extreme circumstances after years apart.
Jury president Isabelle Huppert, alongside her jury, awarded the Golden Lion and other major prizes during the closing ceremony on Saturday, September 7.
Among other key honorees, Nicole Kidman was named Best Actress for her role in Babygirl, while Vincent Lindon took home the Best Actor prize for his performance in The Quiet Son. Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist and Dea Kulumbegashvili’s April were also recognized, along with Maura Delpero’s Vermiglio.
