Mevsimlik Oyuncular Theatre Week is set to take place from June 18 to 22 at the Tower Theatre in Stoke Newington. This unique event will feature three different plays, a stand-up comedy show, and a special talk over five days, bringing together a diverse array of stories and performances.

Making Theatre Accessible to All

One of the key features of this event is the “Askıda Bilet” (Suspended Ticket) initiative, which aims to make theatre accessible to everyone. Through this program, attendees can purchase an extra ticket that will be given to someone who might not otherwise have the opportunity to experience theatre. This initiative is a testament to the inclusive spirit of the festival.

About Mevsimlik Oyuncular

Founded in the wake of the pandemic, Mevsimlik Oyuncular began as an acting workshop for adults led by Eda Çatalçam and Fatih Dönmez. The workshop aimed to provide a space for people to breathe, have fun, create together, and express themselves through theatre. Since 2020, the workshop has accompanied many stories, evolving into a community where theatre lovers come together to share their passion.

Detailed Play Descriptions

“HBir Yerdeki Adam”

June 18 at 7:30 PM
This play revolves around the character Cem Bey, who navigates through the intricacies of the business world, politics, and personal interactions. The narrative is a critical look at societal norms and personal ambitions, portrayed with a touch of humor and sarcasm. Suitable for audiences aged 16 and above, the play runs for 50 minutes.

“Kumpanya”
June 20 at 1:30 PM and 7:30 PM, June 22 at 7:30 PM
Set in the 1940s, “Kumpanya” follows a group of passionate theatre artists who travel across Anatolia to bring theatre to the people. The play within a play structure offers a dynamic and entertaining storyline that highlights the timeless nature of storytelling. This production invites the audience to experience various significant theatre works through the eyes of the company.

“Öldürmek Üzerine Kısa Bir Oyun”
June 19, 21 at 7:30 PM, June 22 at 2:30 PM
Based on confessions collected by experimental writer Max Aub, this play explores the motivations behind acts of violence and murder. Using dark humor, the narrative questions the nature of violence and whether abstract concepts like time, hope, and innocence can also be ‘killed.’ Suitable for audiences aged 16 and above, the play runs for 75 minutes.

Suat Eroğlu’s Stand-Up Comedy Show and Special Talk

Director Suat Eroğlu, one of the first students of Mevsimlik Oyuncular, shares his observations of immigrant life in London, blending absurdities with familial ties stretching back to Yozgat. This stand-up show promises a hilarious and insightful look at the immigrant experience.

“Tiyatro Göçer mi?” Talk

June 22 at 4:30 PM
One of the highlights of the theatre week is the talk titled “Tiyatro Göçer mi?” featuring renowned actress Tilbe Saran and London-based actor Philip Arditti. This discussion will delve into the concept of migration through the lens of theatre, offering unique perspectives on cultural and personal transitions.
