TurkishBank UK Celebrates 50th Anniversary: Empowering Turkish Art and Fintech Innovation in London

As the first and only Turkish-capitalised UK bank, TurkishBank UK continues to uphold its legacy while championing Turkish art and fintech on its 50th anniversary.

Half a Century of Excellence

TurkishBank UK is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, marking half a century as a stronghold of the Turkish-speaking community’s financial needs in Britain. Founded in 1974 as the first and only Turkish-capitalised UK bank, TurkishBank UK has played a crucial role in bridging people and businesses in the UK and Turkey, earning a trusted advisor status within its community. Now, 50 years later, the bank continues its legacy of excellence while supporting Turkish art and fintech innovation globally.

A Legacy of Community Banking

Over the past 50 years, TurkishBank UK has solidified itself as a pioneer in London’s financial sector. With its community banking heritage, the bank continues to offer full-service retail and business banking both in-branch and online. TurkishBank UK is part of the TurkishBank Group, which operates in Turkey, Cyprus, and the United Kingdom.

Turkish Galleries Shine at Photo London

As part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, TurkishBank UK sponsored the participation of Turkey’s leading galleries at the prestigious Photo London fair. Described by *The Guardian* as the “Photography Event of the Year,” Photo London will host 15 Turkish artists at Somerset House from 15 to 19 May.

Under the sponsorship of TurkishBank UK, prominent galleries like Dirimart, Galeri Nev, Galerist, Martch Art Project, SANATORIUM, Versus Art Project, and Vision Art Platform will represent Turkish art on an international platform. The sponsorship aims to promote Turkish art globally while fostering cultural exchange.

A Grand Celebration Kicks Off at the Istanbul Consulate General

The 50th-anniversary celebrations commenced with a special reception at the Istanbul Consulate General on 3 May 2024. Gallery owners, artists, Photo London representatives, and distinguished guests joined the exclusive evening.

TurkishBank UK Chairman Hakan Börteçene expressed his delight at the strong presence of Turkish art at Photo London. “In this special year, we wanted to support Turkish art’s entry into the London market, in line with our Group’s mission, and the results have been remarkable. International media coverage, such as ‘Turkish Stamp on Photo London 2024,’ is a testament to the success. We were aware of the conditions for Turkish art to go global, but we didn’t expect this much interest,” he said.

Supporting Fintech Innovation with T-Gate

In addition to its contributions to Turkish art, TurkishBank UK is also paving the way for fintech innovation with the launch of T-Gate, a new-generation banking platform. T-Gate aims to facilitate the entry of Turkish fintech companies into the strategic London market. By providing Turkish fintech firms with the tools and opportunities to succeed internationally, T-Gate empowers them to become globally competitive.

Global Expansion and Recognition

With a 123-year heritage, TurkishBank Group offers high-income and technology banking services across Turkey, Cyprus, and the UK. Under its brand AÇIK YATIRIM, the bank serves as a financial marketplace for its clients. With T-Gate, TurkishBank Group envisions itself as the bank of the future. TurkishBank UK was recognized for its innovation by *International Banker*, receiving the “Best Innovation in Retail Banking Turkey” award in 2022.

A Rich Legacy of Cultural Support

TurkishBank Group has a longstanding tradition of supporting arts and culture projects. TurkishBank UK’s collaboration with Photo London marks the second event sponsored at Somerset House, following the 2016 sponsorship of the Innocence Museum exhibition.

As TurkishBank UK celebrates its 50th anniversary, it stands tall as a beacon of Turkish art, fintech, and innovation in London. By sponsoring the participation of Turkish galleries and artists at Photo London and supporting Turkish fintechs through T-Gate, the bank continues to honor its cultural heritage while fostering new global partnerships. Here’s to many more years of excellence and success!
