Sensing the Future
Borusan Contemporary’s new talk series organized in parallel with its current exhibitions begins on April 27. As part of the series titled “Sensing the Future”, the conceptual framework of the temporary exhibition Mat Collishaw: Arrhythmia and the collection exhibition Hyper Digital Forces will be deliberated from the perspectives of scientists, academics, and experts from different disciplines. The series will also include a performative conversation event designed for children.
A new series of talks titled “Sensing the Future”, in parallel with the Borusan Contemporary 2023-2024 season exhibitions, Mat Collishaw: Arrhythmia and Hyper Digital Forces start on April 27th. As part of the series, there will be two panels that will examine Mat Collishaw’s recent works in Arrhythmia through a multidisciplinary approach, and an artist talk with Mat Collishaw, as well as a talk on Hyper Digital Forces, which presents a selection from the Borusan Contemporary Art Collection. A performative conversation event designed for children aged between 8 and 10 is also featured in “Sensing the Future”. The talk series will take place at the Perili Köşk.
Arrhythmia exhibition talks
The talks focusing on the Arrhythmia exhibition take their starting point from marine ecosystems and aim to create an intellectual flow of interrelations by exploring the cultural, scientific, technological, and theoretical associations revealed by Mat Collishaw’s works. The artist talk as part of the “Sensing the Future” series will be on the 27th of April, Saturday at 14:00 with the online participation of Mat Collishaw, and it will focus on the representation of nature in artistic and curatorial practices. The artist talk will be moderated by independent curator and writer Çelenk Bafra and it aims to explore the role of aesthetic expressions in our understanding of nature within the context of the ways artists and curators incorporate technology into their work.
On the 1st of June, Saturday at 14:00, the first panel of the “Sensing the Future” talk series which will question how art can help us to understand the major threats we face due to climate change will be moderated by Alice Sharp. The speakers of the panel include Prof. Dr. Muharrem Balcı, a hydrobiology expert who is also among the authors of the Arrhythmia exhibition book, and Güneşin Aydemir, a food activist who continues her civil society activities in the sphere of ecology. The panel will discuss climate change, which causes disruption and chaos in our natural systems, and consider the previous and current ways of confronting nature.
The second panel to be organized as part of the talk series will be moderated by curator and art writer Sinan Eren Erk and it will take place at Perili Köşk on the 8th of June, Saturday at 14:00. In the panel, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ebru Yetişkin, and curator, art director, artist, and educator Ekmel Ertan will discuss how technology interacts with art, science, and climate today and the prospects of these interactions.
Hyper Digital Forces: A Conversation on the Borusan Contemporary Art Collection
Focusing on the 2023-2024 season collection exhibition Hyper Digital Forces, the event will be presented to the audience as part of the “Sensing the Future” talk series on the 4th of May, Saturday at 14:00. The curator of the collection exhibition Dr. Necmi Sönmez and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ebru Nalan Sülün will discuss the curatorial approaches that shaped the Hyper Digital Forces exhibition, opening the Borusan Contemporary Art Collection to new interpretations, and the prospective dialogues with the collection artists.
A chat with young art lovers about marine life
On the 18th of May, Saturday at 14:00, as part of the “Sensing the Future” talk series, a conversation event for children aged between 8 and 10 will be organized by following creative drama techniques. Titled “The Secret of the Water Dinosaur”, the event will be led by Ecem Kodak and Pandora, and an artwork produced by Mat Collishaw for the Arrhythmia exhibition will be observed through an interactive exercise during this talk. Afterward, the conversation with the participating children will focus on the installation Zoetrope (Sounding Sirens), and marine biodiversity will be discussed.
