111 restaurants from Turkey are in the Michelin Guide!

Michelin, the world’s most prestigious restaurant selection, added restaurants from Izmir and Bodrum, as well as Istanbul, to the Michelin Guide in its second year in Turkey. In the 2024 Turkey list, 2 restaurants in Bodrum and 3 restaurants in Izmir were awarded a Michelin Star each, while 2 new restaurants in Istanbul were awarded a Michelin Star each. 4 new environmentally friendly restaurants received Michelin Green Stars. And a brand new Michelin award was presented: Michelin Sommelier Award!

The 2024 Turkey selection of the Michelin Guide, one of the world’s most prestigious hotel and restaurant evaluation systems, has been announced. The best restaurants in Istanbul, Izmir and Bodrum were brought together with their stars at Zorlu Performing Arts Center.

Michelin inspectors included a total of 111 restaurants, 15 in Izmir and 19 in Bodrum, in the new selection of the guide. While 3 restaurants from Izmir and 2 from Bodrum received a Michelin Star, a total of 8 restaurants, 2 from Bodrum and 6 in Izmir, were awarded the Bib Gourmand award.

While 2 of the 25 restaurants newly added to the Istanbul selection received a Michelin Star, 8 restaurants were awarded the Bib Gourmand award. Thus, the list of restaurants in Istanbul increased to 77.

Michelin Guide International Director Gwendal Poullennec said, “Our inspectors were once again attracted by the Istanbul culinary selection this year. Istanbul, a world city with mixed culture, has a very rich gastronomic panorama, from classic Turkish taverns to trendy or international restaurants, as well as cozy restaurants offering a complete culinary experience. “The 2024 Selection, which includes 24 new restaurants spread all over the city, including 2 new Michelin Stars added to the second selection this year, also reveals the rise in gastronomy standards led by the generation of brave chefs who are proud of their traditions,” he said.

Poullennec said the following about Izmir and Bodrum:

“Our teams in Izmir and Bodrum, which have made a remarkably effective entry into the Michelin Guide family, were particularly impressed by the differences that separate these two regions. We can say that local roots, commitment to the region and strong ties established with local producers are the common features shared by most of the selected restaurants in Izmir and its surroundings. The awarding of the Michelin Green Star to three restaurants in the region proves this strong commitment. Bodrum offers a complementary gastronomic concept: while there are luxurious and international venues on the coast, Bodrum’s center is particularly picturesque, easy to access, and hosts small and independent restaurants.”

5 Michelin Green Star Awards

The 2024 selection of the Michelin Guide includes 4 new Michelin Green Star restaurants, 3 in Izmir and 1 in Istanbul. The Michelin Green Star honors restaurants that are pioneers in environmentally responsible gastronomy and also serves as a reliable resource for gourmets who are truly passionate about this subject and trying to discover inspiring cuisines.

OD Urla, Vino Locale and Hangi Lokanta from Izmir, and Circle by Vertical from Istanbul were among the restaurants awarded with the Michelin Green Star. With Neolokal, which was included in last year’s selection, retaining its Michelin Green Star, the number of restaurants awarded the Green Star in the 2024 selection increased to 5.

In addition, 16 new restaurants were added to the Bib Gourmand category of the Michelin Guide, including 2 from Bodrum, 6 from Izmir and 8 from Istanbul.

36 recommended restaurants

In addition to the restaurants awarded with Michelin Star or Bib Gourmand, inspectors also added 36 new restaurants, 6 of which are in Izmir, 15 in Bodrum and 15 in Istanbul, to the recommended list, which stand out with the quality of their cuisine.

In addition to the 15 new restaurants that entered the list of recommended restaurants from Istanbul, the number of recommended restaurants in the city increased to 52 with 37 restaurants that continued to maintain their place in the list of recommended restaurants this year.

Three special awards

The Michelin Sommelier Award, announced for the first time with the Michelin Guide Istanbul, Izmir, Bodrum 2024 selection, went to Seray Kumbasar with a Michelin Green Star in Izmir and Vino Locale, one of the restaurants with a Michelin Star in Izmir.

The Michelin Service Award went to İsmail Kahveci and the service team of Tuğra Restaurant in Istanbul for their extraordinary understanding of hospitality.

Finally, the Michelin Young Chef Award, which honors promising young talents, was given to Ulaş Durmaz from The Red Balon, who was included in the selection from the Bib Gourmand category.
