“Mystic Sounds from Anatolia” concert at St. Mary’s Islington

This Ramadan, London’s St. Mary’s Islington becomes a gateway to the spiritual and cultural landscapes of Türkiye with “Mystic Sounds from Anatolia,” an enchanting evening of music set for Saturday, 15 March 2025, at 8 PM. Celebrate the sacred month through the soul-stirring melodies that have echoed through the ages from the ancient heartland of Anatolia.
Organised by Yunus Emre Institute – London, the evening features a quartet of distinguished musicians, each renowned for their mastery and unique interpretation of Turkish and Anatolian musical traditions. Muhammed Recai Çiftçi, an esteemed scholar and musician, will bring his profound expertise in Turkish religious music and Sufi traditions to the stage, his performances steeped in spiritual devotion. Baha Yetkin, a pioneering oud virtuoso, will captivate the audience with his blend of Istanbul’s haunting melodies and the vigorous rhythms of the Middle East, celebrated for his international collaborations and historic solo performances.
Adding rhythmic depth to the ensemble is Muammer Sağlam, whose mastery over percussion instruments like the darbuka, bendir, and riq will animate the ancient rhythms of the region. The musical journey is further enriched by Serdar Yılmaz, whose virtuoso qanun playing resonates with collaborative spirit, weaving together harmonious interactions with renowned artists and orchestras from Türkiye and beyond.
